STANDARD SPACE
Standard Space is an artist-run project space and gallery for innovative and challenging contemporary art. Founded on the historic town green in Sharon, Connecticut, the gallery serves a dual purpose: operating as an active public exhibition space and housing the studio of its founder as Artist-in-Residence.

The Artists
Over its exhibition history, Standard Space has mounted dozens of solo and collaborative exhibitions, serving as an incubator for a wide spectrum of creative talent:
Regional & Local Focus: Championing essential regional and local perspectives, including the evocative landscape-driven works of Colleen McGuire and the tactile, geometric investigations of Lisa Warren.
Abstraction & Architecture: Exploring intricate, systemic abstraction and diverse formal geometries through the work of Dannielle Tegeder, Sam Posey, Shantell Martin, and Will Hutnick.
Narrative & Mixed Media: Challenging domestic, cultural, and societal narratives through the paintings and mixed-media works of Ron Norsworthy, Gail Rothschild, Lizzie Gill, and Polly Shindler.
Installation & Sculpture: Presenting deeply structural, collaborative, and site-specific projects by artists such as John-Paul Philippe, Ghost of a Dream, and Eve Biddle.
Through its solo showcases, collaborative mashups, and community-driven projects—such as its annual student exhibitions for the Sharon Center School—Standard Space has solidified itself as a vital model for how a localized project space can generate an expansive, far-reaching artistic dialogue.

Theodore G. Coulombe
Founder, Curator, & Artist-in-Residence
Theo Coulombe is an artist, photographer, and the founder of Standard Space. As a curator, Theo has established the gallery as a vital incubator for diverse creative voices, with a mission explicitly focused on amplifying underrepresented groups. His curatorial program intentionally challenges traditional boundaries by balancing a rigorous mix of international, national, regional, and local artists. By juxtaposing distinct geographic and cultural perspectives, the gallery fosters deep community engagement and a continuous, urgent dialogue between global artistic movements and regional practices.
Parallel to his curatorial work, Theo serves as the gallery’s Artist-in-Residence, maintaining a rigorous studio practice rooted in large-format landscape photography. Utilizing an 8X10 view camera and long-focus lenses to compress depth, his work captures the ephemeral qualities of light, fog, and mist at sunrise. Theodore’s photographs explore the intersection of 19th-century wilderness frameworks and the phenomenology of space, transforming precise technical execution into quiet, atmospheric studies of the natural world.
